Koperattiva Kummerc Gust is pleased to have held the Worldfest 17' - Malta's most vibrant Fair Trade event held yearly in the Upper Barrakka Gardens. The event was held on Saturday 14th May between 10.00 am and 10.30 pm and we featured live music, a public forum, Fair Trade crafts, food and refreshments, a drum circle, activities for children, and stalls of our partner organisations. There was Fair Trade products available from Africa, Latin America and Asia, and specialty food and coffee from Eritrea and Palestine. This year's WorldFest was centred around the theme of Fair Trade and Responsible Tourism.
The public forum took place from 4.00 to 5.15 pm and will focus on Fair Trade and Responsible Tourism. The forum was chaired by Dr Andrew Azzopardi, who is a Lecturer in the Department of Youth and Community Studies at the University of Malta. The speakers will be Sergio Bordignon, from the Italian organization working on Responsible Tourism, Viaggi e Miraggi and Aldith Gauchi, who has recently returned from a FRAME-project (Fair and Responsible Action in Mediterranean Area) trip to Morocco to visit Fair Trade producers.
Throughout the day, there was Fair Trade food, drink, handicrafts, artisan products, toys, jewelry, CDs, musical instruments, books, ornaments, masks, pottery, carpets, clothes and textiles from Latin America, Africa and South Asia. There will be activities for children, including games and face-painting. After the forum, Eritrean and Palestinian food will be available. From 7.30 pm onwards there will be live music by Dumtak, the Jungle Wailers, and Kantilena.
Entrance to the festival and all events (including the evening concert) is free, and a warm and friendly atmosphere is guaranteed.
