Launching Campaign: "Kieku l-Ikel Jitkellem"

On October 16th hundreds of organizations from around the world marked the "World Food Day". The Food and Agricultural Organization of the UN holds that "at a time when the global economic crisis dominates the news, the world needs to be reminded that not everyone works in offices and factories. The crisis is stalking the small-scale farms and rural areas of the world, where 70 percent of the world's hungry live and work".

On the occasion of the World Food Day, KKĠ formally launched the "Kieku l-Ikel Jitkellem" (if food could speak) campaign. The launch took place at St. James Cavalier, Valletta (2pm) and got various media coverage.

Through this campaign, several NGOs, cooperatives and political organizations shall be shedding light on several issues relating to food security and scarcity such as:

Concern over Economic Partnership Agreements

Koperattiva Kummerċ Ġust joined hundreds of civil society organizations from Europe in voicing their concern over Economic Partnership Agreements that have been concluded between the Europe and the world's poorest countries. On the 30th September KKĠ petitioned all Maltese MEP encouraging them to ensure that EPA fulfill their primary goal, namely that of enhancing development in poor countries.

L-ewwel fażi tal-proġett tilħaq il-qofol tagħha fil-WorldFest fid-9 ta' Mejju 2009 fi Ġnien l-Indipendenza, Tas-Sliema, iżda l-proġett jibqa' sejjer sal-WorldFest f'Mejju 2010.

Food sovereignity is “a vision with some fairly clear ideas about what needs to happen so that small farmers can survive, that the environment is maintained, and that there is global justice."

Wayne Roberts notes that the subject of food helped him “feel the world as connected.” Life is rich and "it’s great to be part of a movement based on the joy of sharing abundance,” which, for him, “is what the food movement is all about.” It’s the “food revolution.”
